KH supported Turner Contemporary establish their catering framework.
This high profile new venue which opened on the seafront in Margate in 2011 comprises a mixed visual art programme of international repute. Right from the start the Team’s aspirations were ambitious and innovative and the project has received the accolades it deserves.
Initially we carried out a catering feasibility study and reviewed competition in the Town and the region. We looked at local competition in Margate, Broadstairs, Ramsgate, Whitstable, Canterbury etc., trends in the sector, options for the type of facility and its’ management. We supported business planning and, in association with the architects, space availability and need. With this work completed we made a series of proposals to anchor a catering facility within the scheme. Having agreed a café concept we designed the café, counter and kitchen areas. Our final role was the catering outsourcing which we successfully concluded having trawled local and regional caterers for suitability. As with many of our projects we supported the Client Team from conceptual stages, through until post opening.
The solution has brought a unique offer to the Town. This café focuses to a great extent on celebrating the produce of Kent. The café is a popular component of the project, it attracts destination visits and supports Gallery visitors. In many ways it embodies exactly what a café should be at a venue of this type.
